Wayne Rooney Cleared By England FA Over Drinking Controversies

Wayne Rooney has been cleared following an FA inquiry into the “Wedding-gate” furore.
Football Association bosses have carried out an investigation and have fully accepted skipper Rooney’s explanation and insistence that he did not gate-crash a wedding reception.
It means the Manchester United star will not face any disciplinary action or be stripped of the captaincy over the celebratory drink at the team’s Grove Hotel 24 hours after England’s victory over Scotland two weeks ago, and ahead of the friendly with Spain at Wembley three days later.
The FA have established he was photographed by wedding guests who sought him out in public areas of the hotel - not after entering the official wedding reception.
Critically for the credibility of Gareth Southgate, the FA insist the manager-elect did not set a curfew or instruct the player to go to bed.
The FA’s report means Rooney will be clear to continue in the England set-up - even though his automatic starting place is under threat.
