Lewis Hamilton tried every thing in the book, even, defying orders from his Mercedes boss to snatch the drivers' title but could not stop rival Nico Rosberg being crowned champ in Abu Dhabi.
The former world Champion won the duel in the desert but his Mercedes team-mate finished second to claim the coveted trophy by five points.
Hamilton was ordered by his team to up the pace in the closing laps after Rosberg complained he was going to slow in a bid to back him up into the Red Bulls and Ferrari's.
But Hamilton ignored the call saying they should be allowed to race as they want as he tried to become Britain's most successful driver with a fourth title.
Rosberg was threatened by Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel, but never looked like being overtaken - though third place would also have been good enough for the championship.
Rosberg triumphed 34 years after his father, Keke, who was not in Abu Dhabi claimed his first world title with Williams.
The duo joined Graham and Damon Hill as the only father-and-sons to be crowned champions.
