England star James Haskell moves to reassure fans he is not dead after fake news stories

Wasps and England star James Haskell has moved to reassure fans he is not dead after a series of bizarre fake news stories hit the internet.

Rumours started that Haskell had died of a drugs overdose or that he was selling drugs and had quit rugby and left his family, report the Coventry Telegraph.

In response, Haskell posted a video on his personal YouTube channel to confirm that he was very much alive and that the stories were all just “fake news click-bait.”

Fake news fake or hoax websites deliberately publish hoaxes, propaganda and disinformation to drive web traffic.

Haskell has moved to reassure fans he is not dead

“You may have seen there are quite a few fake news stories operating on Facebook, that I have died of a steroid overdose - which is not true - died of a drug overdose, which is not true and my career is over because I have been trying to sell drugs," he said.

“Another is circulating that I had to quit rugby and left everyone in my family and moved away. It is all click-bait.”

Thankfully though, James doesn’t leave his family behind, including girlfriend Chloe Madeley, and is still one of Wasps’ star players.

He has been out injured recently, but looks to be on schedule for a return around the middle of this month.

Haskell recently told the Telegraph: “It will be ready when it’s ready, there’s nothing that will make it any quicker. I’m currently doing four sessions a day, so it’s like pre-season hell that’s gone on for five months.

“I had four months off with my knee, but some of that was in pre-season, so this has been my longest absence.

"It’s not ideal, because I obviously want to play, but in the long-run not getting beaten up for a few weeks, and having a break after 14 years is probably a good thing.”
