Petra Kvitova Escapes Death After She Was Attacked At Home

Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova says she is "fortunate to be alive" after being attacked in her home by a burglar wielding a knife.

Ms Kvitova, who suffered injuries to her left hand which are not considered to be life threatening, was apparently attacked in her home in the eastern Czech town of Prostejov on Tuesday.

"It was a random criminal act," spokesperson Karel Tejkal is quoted as saying.

"She was assaulted in her apartment and is in the care of doctors, but her injuries are not life threatening".

The spokesperson for Ms Kvitova also reported that the burglar has yet to be apprehended with the police currently conducting a thorough search of the area.

Local reports suggest the assailant made off with 5000 Czech Koruna (approx. £155).
