Mahrez Wins BBC African Player Of The Year Award

Wherever he comes in the Ballon d’Or rankings tonight, Riyad Mahrez has gone home with one prize today.

He’s been named the BBC African Player of the Year, as voted for by fans.

The Algerian led Leicester to the most unlikely of Premier League titles and saw off competition from Liverpool’s Sadio Mane (2nd), Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Andre Ayew of West Ham and Manchester City’s Yaya Toure.

From that list, only Mahrez and Aubameyang are also on the Ballon d’Or shortlist.
